WAIT... WHAT THE HECK ARE THE DIY AWARDS?

The DIY Awards is an annual event celebrating women who have been rocking the DIY space over the past year.

It's a community-based event, with all of the nominees being submitted by DIY creators and enthusiasts across Instagram, in a variety of categories like Best DIYer on a Budget, Best Paint Transformation, Best Rental DIYer, and more.
The top 10 creators in each category move on to the semifinal voting, then the top 5 go to the finals.

It all culminates in a live Awards Ceremony to present the winners with their trophies!

The DIY awards are a celebration and recognition of women in DIY home renovation and design. These are women encouraging and empowering others to embrace and feel comfortable in an industry that has historically been exclusionary towards women. These badass folks are flipping the script and busting down the walls of the hardware store boys' club, one demo day at a time. They make you realize your potential, and help you build your dreams with elbow grease and power tools.

It wouldn't be the DIY Awards without some DIYs right?

Every year I hand make each trophy right in my garage! They're made out of wood I have on hand, tools, saw blades, gold spray paint, and other bits and bobs. They're a little kitschy and a lot fun. Making the trophies is one of my favorite parts of the DIY awards! After the voting is done and winners have been picked, I order custom plaques for each trophy with the winner's name and the title of the award.  Then they get shipped out to the winners who get to keep them forever!

Did you think the DIY fun stopped there? Nope. For the Live Awards Ceremony on Instagram where I present the awards to the winners, I make my "gown" out of stuff I find in my garage-- Duct tape, plastic sheet, garbage bags, wood, nails, etc.  Last year I constructed my gown the day of the awards ceremony on my IG story, but I have an idea for this year's gown that might require a little more pre-planning... we shall see!

Need a shirt to proclaim your love of DIY? Looking for the perfect planner to organize your next DIY project? I got you!
