On Happiness

I've been thinking a lot about happiness lately, mainly because I've been feeling incredibly blessed and joyful right now. I was thinking about the things in my life that create happiness so I thought I'd share them with you guys.

>> Surround yourself with good people who love you and believe in your dreams.
Put yourself in a place where you are supported to pursue your dreams. Make sure these people are honest and trustworthy. It might feel nice to have someone say that everything you do is great, but if they're just blowing hot air, it won't mean as much. Surround yourself with people who will support you and give you constructive criticism to help you reach your dreams.

>> Appreciate the importance of bringing beauty into your life.
I think sometimes we discount the importance of beauty and it's healing and rejuvenating effects. There's a reason we bring flowers to people in the hospital, beauty can give our spirits a breath of fresh air.

>> Accomplish your goals.
Make a list of things you want to accomplish and do them. I find that lists like this work much better when they have a shorter time limit on them, such as 25 before 26 lists instead of bucket lists that you have your whole life to finish. When you give yourself just a year to complete a set list of things, it lights a fire beneath you to actually go out and complete them! Don't forget to celebrate when you accomplish goals, too!

>> Stretch yourself out of your comfort zone.
When you move out of your established comfort zone, you actually make your comfort zone grow! Do something that you've wanted to do for a long time but have just been too scared to take the leap. Do this with small things as well as large. You can talk to a stranger in the waiting room, or start that business you've always wanted to. Stretch yourself!

>> Don't allow people in your life who thrive on drama and conflict.
People like this are a cancer. Ultimately, people who have a tornado of drama around them will eventually zero in on you, or if not, you'll somehow get caught in their dangerous web of drama and conflict. It's not healthy and only serves to create instability in your life.

>> Make your living space reflect yourself.
Making time to create a space that feels like home is so important. Sometimes just rearranging the living room, or putting up a beautiful piece of art can make a room feel more you. Living in a place that reflects your heart and creativity can be refreshing!

>> Every once in a while, do something just for yourself.
Go out to your favorite restaurant, paint your nails, bake some cookies, buy that dress that's been in your wishlist for so long. Sometimes a little treat can give yourself just the boost you need.

>> Forgive.
Holding a grudge is like having an open doorway to letting resentment into your heart. Let go of the things that are holding you back and keeping you lingering in the past. Release that baggage, forgive and move forward with your life.

>> Love others.
Loving others brings so much love into your life. Do something for someone else without expecting anything in return. Learn what makes other people smile and do that for them. It will enlarge your heart and create more room for love to thrive!
