Reception!

Wheeooh.  Yesterday was a day.  I got up and showered, did my hurr and makes.  Then I went to school for a bit, came back home, got dressed for the opening reception, picked up a barbeque, and went to the show!

We roasted hot dogs out in front of the art building and had peanuts and ruffles and beef jerky and a variety of sodas.  It was the perfect day for it too.  Eighty degrees!  I wore my favorite dress and curled my bangs again.
Afterwards we went out to a mexican place and got margaritas and buckets of coronas!  Then we went to school and watched a showing of The Vagina Monologues.  It was incredible.

Margaritaville

I'm not sure what happened with this first photo, I think my camera was on a weird setting.

Channelling my mother circa 1979.

Shirt/vintage(mom's) : Skirt/vintage : Shoes/thrift

This is one of my favorite shirts.  It's really cropped so I either have to have a midriff baring day or high waisted day.  I prefer high waisted.

Today it was SEVENTY FIVE degrees outside.  Absolutely perfect weather.  I'm hoping it stays like this for our senior exhibition opening reception/barbeque tomorrow evening.
Speaking of which...

It's all hung and ready for viewing!  I hated to part my living room and couch since they aren't the same without each other, but it just went with this piece so perfectly that it was impossible to say no.  We had couches in our jr. exhibition, so we thought we'd do it again.  My couch is an enormous bitch to move though because its a seventies hide a bed.  Translation: one thousand pounds.  I know, it looks innocent enough.  Anyway, this is what you see as you walk into the gallery.  Pretty cool!

Slowly but surely

I live right across the street from a little library and I can see right into the windows.  Every night a car shows up in the driveway of it and then all the lights get turned on inside.  I know it's probably someone doing a mundane library job, but for some reason it always seems magical.  Like something whimsical and magical is going on in the vacant library.  Perhaps all the books are coming to life!!

My painting is sort of coming along.  I wish I'd been able to work on it over spring break, but oh well.  I got the interior lines of the Winne sketched in and added gold leaf (!) which was like one of the most instantly gratifying things I've ever done.
Sorry the photos are slightly blurry, I couldn't use the flash because the gold leaf was so reflective it just looked like a bright flash.  Now the hard part starts, namely, actually painting the Winne.  It's a familiar figure though, which is nice.  Makes it a little easier.

It's late!  Past my bed time certainly...

Cheer up, sleepy Jean

I couldn't figure out what to do for my triptych painting so I went back to my first muse today and I now know what I am going to do.  I took these pictures today for inspiration.  I think I may use the second one as a reference.  The first one is just fun.

Brave

I have been thinking very much about going home and all the large objects I will have to be moving, which made me think of this painting. I think it's my favorite painting that I've ever done. It's pretty wierd, but I just adore it. Right now it's above my fireplace, but I doubt I'll have a fireplace in my new apartment.
It's 3x4 ft and a hassle to move around. The frame makes it weigh almost as much as I do. Maybe I'll have some tall, strong people help me move. That would be ideal.
